Hello all. I"m looking for the oil pump cover (part #6098 D) for a Farmall A. When I took the oil pump out to reface the cover in the hopes of getting a little better pressure (it was in fact worn), I noticed that it was pitted, or broken in several places around the outside edges. Looks like this piece is aluminum and it is severely pitted. Anybody seen this before?

Also need the gasket (43415 D) to go with it, or perhaps a suggestion on what to use for a gasket. What came off was an extremely thin paper type gasket.

Other than that, pump is fine, so I really don"t need the whole thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Not to be a pain, but the oil pump cover is listed in red on the CIH site with no check box. I believe it is not available from them any longer. The gasket is.

Bates shows they have one. Anyone have any luck with them?

i have bought from bates before, they are good people to deal with. i did check with the local dealer last year for the same part for my farmall b, same pump, they said it was still available, around a hundred dollars or so.

sounds good. thanks for the info. did your part have the pitting/broken off pieces? i was sort of wondering what causes that.

Had the same problem with my C.
The cover was warped pitted and worn down. The best way to save it is by polishing the cover with wet sandpaper. You put the sandpaper on a mirror or on any other surface that you know is perfectly flat and lock it in place. You put some white spirit or water on it and you start polishing the cover in an 8-shaped motion untill your cover is completely blank. This way it will seal up nicely. The best way to seal you pump is with sealing paper about 0.8mm thick. I used this trick on my pump and I've got to say, works like a charm :).

Kind Regards

what exactly is sealing paper, and where does one get it?

as for the sanding, that is exactly what I was planning on doing, only that piece is badly broken, ie: missing chunks of material, around the outside and I'm just afraid it will leak or break in the future. I'd like to replace it with an undamaged cover, even if I need to sand that one to make it right.

Sealing paper is just joint-paper where you can cut out the desired shape of joint :).
Well, I don't know how badly damaged your cover is. As long as It's able to seal around the edges I don't think there would be a problem? Mine was chipped also around the edges but there was still enough material left to seal the pump.
DON'T try to use liquid-jointing or silicones on your pump! It has the nasty habbit to creep inside you gearworks, makes it's way up and, well I guess you know what I mean.

Hope I could help

Kind Regards,

If you can't find that part, take yours to a welding shop that does aluminum and get it built up before sanding. It may last another 50 years. Try without a gasket. Keep turning as you tighten the bolts . If it gets tight put in the gasket. If not you are good to go. There may be enough clearance wear in the gears to run without a gasket.

The gaskets are what determine the clearance between the cover and gears. Keep that in mind when selecting the new gasket material, I would use new original gaskets, it is hard to make your own gaskets that thin. Sometimes you need two gaskets to get the correct clearance.
