There was some questions about f-20 with elec. starters. I own two with elec. starters I have seen them on 1935, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939 so I don't think they was just on the later models. I went out to the barn and looked at the # on my bellhousings. It looks like HA1585 it's at the front top of housing hard to see. I don't know if that's a IH part # or not? 40 years ago within a 30 mile radius of me I seen five f-20's with elec. starters. I was able to buy two of them tractors. If any one has ever pull a motor on one with a starter it's a B%%%% taking out and putting in the boss for the starter hangs up on the frame rails I thought I was going to have too loose the rails. Finally I spread rails about a 3/8" and found a sweet spot. I have never tried to remove a flywheel with the starter ring on it. I will leave that for the younger guys.

IHC did not make a starter for the F-20. This was documented in Red Power a few years ago. Heider made a lot of them that farmers and dealers installed. I have one that I intend to install on a Regular this summer. 50 years from now, it will be discussed on some IHC Bulletin Board like this!

I agree--I do not belive that IHC made the electric start system--they sub contracted it out. A local dealer once told me that when they ordered a tractor for someone who wanted electric start, they got the tractor and then coverted it before delivering it to the customer. He also told me that when the tractors came in for trade-ins, overhauls, etc, they would add electric starters, lights, road gears, right hand brake handles, pneumatics, etc to make them sellable. Quite frequently they would talk a farmer into an upgrade when he would buy a more modern tractor---farmers around here prefered to keep an old tractor for odd jobs and as a back up. Dealers did whatever it took to stay ahead of the competition. Also, Sears used to sell parts and accessories in their catalog; I have a 1936 F-12 with sleeves, crank, rods, pistons, etc all bought from sears.

I'm pretty sure all of the "factory" electric starts were Heisler produced. I've never seen any IH literature for them, nor do they appear in parts manuals, operator's manuals, product specification list, etc. There is however, plenty of ads in the tractor parts companys (Central Tractor, etc) of the era for the kits.

non of the f-20's came from the factory with electric start. There were a few companys that made them. I had a 36 with a hole in the block that I took the components and instais on my late 39. It was a pretty big job the worse part was pulling and reinstalling the flywheel
