My 1486 is getting hard to shift into gear. When I go from reverse to forward gear "high or low" have to just keep working it till I get it to go. Anybody have or had this problem. Thanks Eddie

Lots of things could do it...

Poor linkage ends, out of adjustment, TA dump valve not releasing, and cab mounts come to mind. Oh, and if the trans brake is set too tight it could also cause hard shifting.

I would start by going through the adjustment procedure for the clutch pedal free-play, TA dump valve, and transmission brake.

If that doesn't work, start pulling the covers off and take a look at the linkage ends to see if they are worn or binding. Looking at the cab mounts should be easy, too.

I've never done any of this, so I'm just talking in theory.

People will say it is very common for the 86's to shift hard. Could be a wore out range trany cover (where the shaft goes threw the cover) or ball joints to loose or shifting fork bent which will cock the gear as it tries to slide it or ''''''.
