I tryed to take off my govener on my 49 C,I removed the mag and the 4 bolts from the front.The unit moved some but would not slide off.What am I doing wrong and what do I do before i take it off any marks or something I should refernce?

Have you got both the linkage from the throttle lever and to the carburator disconnected? tractorsam

Sorry, had to check, sometimes I overlook the simplest things and then end up kicking myself. Other than the (I think at least five) bolts that secure it it should come straight off. Do you have the rad off the tractor? If not it is a little more difficult to wiggle it off there. tractorsam

When you get it loose be sure you dont remove or get the gear moved or you will get the timing off and have a mess. Just be careful removing the gov it will come out but aint easy.

There are more than 4 bolts. I think there are 5. 2 on the top a long and short and one on the side (to the outside of the motor)and 1 on the bottom and 1 on the fan side. The short one also is one of the bolts that hold on the temp gauage if you have one.
