while watching my back blade last summer i had the steering wheel at full lock to the right (backing up) and my left wheel grabbed a log, when i straightened the steering wheel out the right wheel was staight ahead and the left was pointed in a little ways, after driving a short distance it also straightened out, since then it seems the left wheel doesn"t turn as sharp as the right and occasionally i notice it is either in or out compared to the right, what should i be checking to correct the problem?
what could i possibly try to tighten the front end up again?
as far as alingment goes, r there any tricks to it or is it just eyeballing the wheels to make sure they r pointed straight?

any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

The Cowman has the answer. It is unsafe the way it is, especially around people or animals, it can (and will) go completely crooked and steer into somthing you like very much. Pull the top off of the spindle and take a look. JimN

YOU NEED TO PAY CLOSE ATTENTION Jan's Comments---because if the condition the Cowman mentions is present....you are looking to get your neck broken when the front wheels change direction as you go down the road at 15 MPH.

(Been there, done that...lucky that is changed diretions when I was almost stopped)

The steering arms on top of the spindles are probably keyed on. Sounds like maybe the key sheared. As far as eyeballing the alignment, use a tape measure. The wheels ought to be 1/8 closer at the front. That is called "toe in" If they are toed out the tractor will want to wander on the highway.

Kurt, You must have bent, damaged or knocked the tie rod or rods out of adjustment when you hit the log. Check for play or looseness and adjust tie rod ends till wheels align again. You can measure rim to rim with tape measure that is good enough for a low speed vehicle. oldiron29

i am pretty sure the tie rods r not bent, so can the spindles be sheared like u said and the wheel still turn fairly easily just sitting there, but while turning and moving be slightly out of alingment with the right? thanks
