Should my radiator be painted red or black? What were they from the factory? I know IH painted tractors when they were assembled but was the radiator on. Mine has been on my tractor along time. It is black but I think it was purchased that way.

When we were racing stock cars, radiator rebuilders always said painting a radiator black helped it to dissipate heat, even compared to leaving it unpainted.

I would assume one would prefer the same function on a tractor.

I paint the frame and tanks red, and leave the core alone, for fear of clogging some of the fins. The original IH radiators were mostly overspray.

I paint the core with high temperature black then mask that off and paint the frame red.

Sounds like that would look pretty sharp.

They were black and the overspray of red followed.
