Some Super C / C questions?

I'm helping someone who is trying to resurrect a Farmall Super C from a tractor and a half that someone has badly crossbred in the past. There are two engines and I just want to check that a block with the part No. of 354898R1 (vs. part No. 251069R1) should be able to be rebuilt with the largest sleeves (as C-123's go, I think it will accept up to 3 1/4" bore?) as the tractor will be used for pulling. Also something I've not seen before on one of these tractors, on the straight C rear end there is a marking that looks like *USRC* cast between the part no. (351132 R1) and the casting date (9-29-R) on the tranny cover. Any ideas or do they all have them? Many thanks, tractorsam

Nope, still too busy Hugh. If you have your heart set on green I supose we could try striping it Red and green, just keeping with the seasonthird party imageHey, a lightning bolt design would make all the other guys at the track real jealous...

Actually even your block is on the back burner at the moment, working a couple of Cub projects this weekend. Need to reassemble one that's stripped down to the transmission for some seals and I think my wife would like the motor out of the basement... I'm glad I'm working a 2nd one at the same time as I'm going to spend more time sealing the headbolts than I had planned. Those Cubs really have a bad tendency toward seizing them (reminds me of the last perkins diesel I worked on). The 2nd one is a tractor somebody took time with and did a very nice job on somewhere in the past (looks as though they dismantled it and painted each piece as they rebuilt it, new hardware and everything), but suffering a burned valve now and has taken several weeks to get the head off (still sheared one bolt).
Happy New Years, and I'll let ya know when your block gets back from the paint shop!

Stan.

Sam: The 354898 R1 block will take 3-1/4" bore sleeves and pistons without modification. 251069 R1 is the factory block used in Farmall C and in Super A proir to serial number 310300. I believe the last one will only take 3-1/8" bore.

If I'm wrong Stan VA will soon correct me, that is unless he's to busy boring that 354898 R1 block out to 5" for me. I want him to paint it John Deere green, he seems rather reluctant to paint it that color.

Thanks all, that was sort of what I was thinking but I wanted to be at least reasonably sure before ripping into the engine. Didn't really want to pull both of them down to have to find out. Thanks, tractorsam

The SC 123 block can go to 3 and 1/4 bore without machine work. I will have to look up th part numbers, but the lower numbered is likely a C-113 and the other C-123. I will post back with info in numbers, if Hugh doesn't come along with then before I find my stuff.

Many thanks for the offer of help. I'm not quite sure how serious my friend intends to get or what the rules are that we pull under. I will however see him tomorrow and I'll find out if different heads etc would be allowed and if wants to go that far (incidentally I might just know where there is a 340 head near me). Thanks for the offer and I'll send an email along if this might fit within the rules. tractorsam

NOW if you want to realy go and spend money the block can be bored to take the 3 1/4. Chances are your blocks will only take the 3 1/8. In both cases you can mill the head 125 thous. You can get hi-dome sleeve and pistons with rings for less that 300.If you could find a 340 head you get bigger valves. The large pistons and head will give you 40 or so HP. Send e-mail and i can tell you where to get the stuff as i cannot list vendors on this site. I will also give my phone# after getting e-mail. There are more tricks depending on your rules.
