I was told serveral years ago IH actually designed the the JD 3010 4010 ect which was supposed to have been the 06 series. Supposedly someone at IH took the design to Deere either by sell or transfer of employment and Deere built the 10 series. One can see some things that could make this likely. The right hand trans shift would be one. Has anyone ever heard anything like this. A retired JD engineer told me this.

Everything I've read talks about the complete secrecy of the JD new generation of tractors... they were able to keep it secret up until just before the tractors came out. I believe they caught most of the other manufacturers by surprise.

Personally, I don't believe that JD came up with many original ideas - they improved upon other's ideas and had a better marketing plan... third party image

I personally know several of the engineers that worked on the design of these tractors at an off-site location in Waterloo known as the "meat market". Not a word of truth to the rumor you inquire about. I've even had an IH engineer relate the story of how IH caught wind of these new Deere tractors maybe 6 months prior to actual introduction in Dallas.

I think I read somewhere that the prototype for the new generation tractors was first built sometime in the early 50s, which makes sense because Deere certainly wasn't going to release it until they had a chance to fully test it.
