Thanks to a lot of info from many of you I was able to find out what kind of pump I have in between my distributer and engine for my M. It is an M&W 201p. Does anyone know what the rating of this pump is and does it need a valve to reduce the pressure it puts out or can I hook it right up and go?

Thanks,
Eric

The M & W hyd. pump is way too big to hook directly to the PS unit. You will need a relief valve and a valve to set the flow at about 3 gals per minute. The little Charlyn pump that mounted by the dist. was about 3 gals. per minute and had a relief valve built right into the pump. Hope this helps.

Rated at 12 GPM if the inlet or outlets are not restricted and recomended to use a relief valve set at 1000 PSI. Its overkill for the PS and was used to make the tractor hydraulics work anytime engine was running instead of countershaft driven pump. A open center hydraulic valve was used and a priority valve used to run power steering also if desired. They also made a system to power existing valving in the belley pump but it cut flow to 8 GPM. Does your hydraulic reservoir in center housing have a outlet hole in the bottom toward front of tractor? After saying the above I have saw tractors working with the power steering operated by a pump like yours and the power steering was all it powered.

Yes on my belly pump I have one outlet that could possibly go toward the front of the tractor. For a reservoir I fabricated a round tank that looks a lot like the old reserve tanks that sat in front of the big tank.

Man this thing has me wanderin?

Thanks

Reason I ask was most of the time the IH reservoir was used for the pump by tapping a 3/4 inch pipe thread in the lower front for suction hose. Afraid thats it for tonight, going to bed.
