I am looking at a 706 with a single remote. Were multiple remotes a factory option on this model? Is it possible to add 1, maybe even 2 remotes? I am prepared to add splitters to the existing remote but would prefer to have 3 individual remotes. Any help would be appreciated.

The number of couplers is irrelevant. How many LEVERS does it have? One lever, one remote.

The '06 series tractors have double hydraulic outlets for each factory remote. One set is up under the gas tank, and one is behind the tractor. The same lever controls one set up front, and one set in the rear. This is for front-mounted cultivators, which were still popular in the early 1960's.
By the late '60s, 3pt cultivators were the thing, though cultivating itself was actually becoming less popular because of modern herbicides (weed killer spray). Once through the field at high speed with the sprayer covering 50-100ft at a time killed all the weeds vs. creeping up and down the rows, 4-6 rows at a time, with a cultivator. '56 series tractors did not come with the under-gas-tank hydraulic outlets.

my dad's 706 has 4 hydralic couplers. 2 of them are up on the right hand side( from the seat) near the batteries. that's prolly cuz it has a loader on it but if you had looooong hoses it would work. i think most came out with the remotes up there but i'm not a IH guru

Here's an extra valve kit that will work on a 706. Any tractor salvage yard should be able to help you to.

There's only room for two factory remotes under the seat. With all the '06-'66 series tractors in the junkyard these days, it should be simple to find the parts to add the second remote.

Check the existing remote. If it's the older style with a separate cover plate, you can get a "power beyond plate" that will let you add as many additional open-center spool valves as you want. However, most of these tractors had single spools with the integrated end plate.

A lot of them came with dual remotes. You could go to a junkyard and see if they have an original unit that you could add on. They can get pretty spendy. Last time I shopped for a used original unit, the scrapyard wanted $500 for it!
Another alternative is to plumb your 706 for power beyond. I can't tell you how to do it on a 706, but I know I did it on my 684 IH. Go to your CaseIH dealer and ask. They should know. Then you can add on a double spool after market valve and still have your original outlet. I put a nice joystick control double spool valve on my tractor. It cost about $250 plus some hoses I had to buy.
