After a few months of soaking Finally pulled the head off of it and with a little persuading got her loose. Seems all is well with the walls and the pistons, no ridges or pitting. Valves were also hard to free up. Need to know 2 things? 1. What is the best way to surface the head and block to clean it up. They are in good shape and just need to kind of scrape it clean for the new gasket. 2. valves also look real good. Figure to lap them. Where is a good place to get a tool to compress the springs? Also the tool to hold the valves in while turning them. Dont need a top of the line just an afordable set. Thanks

I use a wire brush on a dill to clean up the head and block. Stuff rags in the piston holes to keep the dirt etc. out. If you have an o'reilly's auto parts tore in your area you can rent a spring compressor from them. Its sort of free but what they do is this. You pay for it and then when you bring it back they pay you back all of your money so you rent it for nothing unless you brake it that is then you have to buy it

A grinder with a knotted wire cup brush works good to clean up the head and block. If you have a die grinder they make an attachment for it that has something like a potscrubber on it that has plastic threads on it to change discs, which are about 3inch diameter,it really cleans it good.Metal prep somthing I think its called. It sort of cleans and polishes it and dont take long to do it.I think it cost about 15 dollars at a parts store. If you dont have a grinder or a die grinder, you can get a wire brush that fits in a electric drill and a real sharp putty knife or gasket scraper.

To get the valves apart, they might have something at a parts store,Sears,Snap On,you might even be able to make something that would work to get the keepers off.Napa probly has a valve grinder with suction cups on it.I think I have seen all that stuff in a JC Whitney catalog before.
