still fooling around with the 240utility. have some fast hitch issues. heres what happens. pull back on the control, hitch lowers, foreward on control, hitch raises, however, hitch will strain on the up cycle, you need to lower and raise couple times, then it comes up fine. i switched the hydraulic hoses at the cylinder, and the hitch works fine with no strain, however, the hitch then creeps down. under the seat is a junction block that the hoses connect to. is there a check valve in there? are they rebuildable? here is a pic of the block

You caught me with my 240 hydraulics apart, before it got too cold to finish. Here"s what it looks like under my seat shelf. There are two types of check valves, single and double. Mine is a double. Judging by the way yours is connected, it may be the single (as my 340 is). In either type, internally there is a piston with an Oring that does the work. I disassembled both of mine and replaced the O rings. It is my understanding that the check valves are responsible for holding pressure under load. It"s an easy enough rebuild. I"ll post a blowup if you need it. Good luck.

It would make sense that down is slower for precise control when lowering implements. You'd never get the plow to the right depth.

I certainly am not an expert but it sounds like it is working fine. My 240 comes up quick when I pull back and lowers slowly when I push forward. If yours is broke then I guess mine is too!
