I am about to overhaul the engine on my Farmall 300 and in looking for an overhaul kit it gives two kits depending upon the serial number. The serial number plate on my tractor is very worn. It appears to be 30450 S. Does this appear to be a valid number? Does anyone know or have the list of serial numbers for the 300? You probably realize this is a row crop tractor since it is a Farmall 300. It"s been a good tractor and is deserving of the rebuild.

My Dad has a 1956 300 and the serial number is 30461. Yours is not much different, so yours is most likely a 56 too. Look in the Serial Numbers section of the left.

I think the reason for the different kits is because they changed connecting rods and pistons to use a smaller wrist pin in later tractors. Most times they list the engine # to go by. Its stamped on a flat pad on right side of engine block between the side cover and head. Engine serial # 48049 and up used the small pins. You should have the small. They started at Farmall gas tractor # 25080. If so you would use the same kit as a C175 engine if using 3-5/8 pistons.

That number appears to be too high for a 300. At least according to the serial numbers listed here.
Year Starting Serial Number
1954 501
1955 1779
1956 23224

Scott: Those are beginning serial numbers for each year. Look at John's post, he is correct.

Looks like 30450 would be a 1956 according to my book, and close to the end at that. 30508 is the last serial number shown for 1956. Hope that helps.
