I have the PTO apart and I have a question. Any help would be appreciated.

About half the clutches where welded together, the previous owner said he ran a brown tree cutter with it (it has a six hundred pound stump jumper). Anyway, i had to cut the clutches off but everything looks good otherwise.

would the welded clutches make the hydraulic valve just flop up and down and not seem to do anything. The valve rod is kinda sloppy in its bore too. the pump looks fine. any experiences?

There are two things that would cause the clutch discs to weld together. One would be low hydraulic clutch pressure to the cluth pack which can be checked and adjusted after the PTO is reassembled. The other is caused by normal wear on the clutch pack with normal hydraulic pressure and the apply piston coming against the the travel limit snap ring.Once that happens the piston can travel no further and any aditional wear on the clutch pack will cause them to slip and get hot.If the hydraulic pressure is set at about 235 PSI you should be able to kill the engine without the PTO slipping.

Bradford the clutchs would have nothing to do with hyd valve. The valve has a small hard pin about 1/32 dia that brakes once in a wile. Now is a good time to check it.
