What is the difference between the two,, say a Farmall 1206 and International 1206. I know that the Farmall is row crop and IH is the utility version but what exactly does that mean.

Wheatlands can alos usually be picked out by their big feners. They are wide and go almost halfway around the wheel depending what model it is. Like mkirsch said Wheatlands usually have lower gearing in the rear end cause they are built for big time pulling and have big heavy duty oversized drawbars compared to their rowcrop counter parts.

I know you asked about 1206s as an example, but here is a pic of my 560 Wheatland.

In the case of larger tractors such as the 1206, International indicates the Wheatland or Standard Tread version.

Farmalls are row-crop tractors, with taller rear wheels, higher clearance underneath, and adjustable tread width.

International utility tractors are low to the ground, short wheelbase tractors that are designed to be maneuverable and handy. They have limited tread width adjustability.

International Wheatland tractors are designed for heavy tillage on the open plains. They generally have fatter tires and lower gearing to pull larger implements. As implied by Standard Tread, they do NOT have adjustable tread width.
