Hi guys,
I had my 1486 on the dyno at a John Deere Dealer and they said it was putting out 175 hp. Im not going to be really working it hard and the stock 145 hp would be just fine. I dont want to break anything either. So, I was wondering how to turn it back down to the original HP. Im not sure how accurate each dyno is so im wondering if it is all stock and there dyno is just off by that much. I was wondering how I could tell on the pump if it was messed with. I was also looking at a muffler eliminator on Shoup parts.com and they have a couple different kinds, one is for non-asperated, and asperated. As far as im concered a non-turbo and a turbo engine is still both asperated. just non- turbo is called naturally asperated. What do you guys think they mean by non-asperated and asperated. Thanks.

If the pump has never been opened up to tune it a little there will be a fine wire through the holes on the 4-1/4" bolts the hold the cover on the pump adjustment.

That was how the dealer could tell if the pump was turned up to void warranty.

But I agree with Jake it won't develope 175 HP if not needed to.

If you wont be working it hard you'll never use the 175 it has and it wont matter if it's turned up or not. It only uses the HP neded for the job at hand. We used to have a late build 1486 that came with the 466 and would dyno 200 stock. You'll get some variation from dyno to dyno, and also if one operator pulls it down on RPM more than another it will read way different.

The asperator ? is on if you have a small 1&1/4 " or so hose or pipe going from the air cleaner inlet to the exhaust to draw dirt out and keep it from going into the air cleaner. If you dont have the pipe/hose yours is non asperated.

I agree that the 1486 never came with a 466. He also stated that they were phasing the 436 out for the 88 series....but hum....what did a 5088 have, thats right...a 436.

Yes a few of the last ones did as they were phasing out the 436's as the 88 series had 466. Ours was bought NEW with a DT466. It was stamped on the block and when rebuilt at 7K hrs verified as being a DT466. It's even been discussed here and on red power. They are not listed in the books as having them but the guys on the assembly line wanted to assemble a tractor and when the 436 bucket was empty they went to the 466 bucket.

Turn the smoke screw in one and a half turns, which should be right at a 30 horsepower decrease.

When you crack the throttle to wide open from an idle you should just get a light grey colored smoke from the pipe for a second or so.

That's how ya tell if it is close to a factory setting.
