I have recently bought a 1939 A. I have been told that the original Farmall red paint and IH red paint are not the same. Anyone know about this?

Also, I could be in the market for an engine block. The area on the block casting that holds the steering was somehow broken. It was welded back on and whoever did it did a good job. But they put a brace from the steering box mount back to the rear of the engine. As I want this tractor for show, it doesn't look too good. Any help here?

The paint currently sold by Case IH is IH 2150/PPG 71310/DuPont 96766. It was not sold until 1961 when the 460/560 appeared. The original paint on your A was IH 50/PPG 70093/DuPont 7410. Case IH does not sell IH 50. And you can rest assured that any paint you buy from anyone will not match what came on your tractor. Too many changes in the formulations. So, pick one you like.

You should be able to find a good used block. Some of the men on here have parts tractors. If you're not going to use the tractor for any heavy usage you may be able to remove the brace and help
with the looks.

I used PPG's 71310 IH paint code on a tiller and it looked fine. There's a man in Ohio that restores these tractors and he uses Martin Senour
Crossfire paint. They look new when he has finished. Here's a couple of tractors he has done. The WD45 was just redone for the tractor owner by his daughter for his Christmas present. Hal
