I just posted (12/30/07) some photos of a 656 that is for sale. The owner states it runs perfectly no smoke, noises etc. I am not sure of the options on the tractor such as transmissions etc. Maybe the photos will help. What was the main purpose of this tractor as shown in the photos?

Thanks,

Joe

Check tires, general overall condition, how well it starts, use the glow plugs and be patient with them. Chech for noises in each gear of transmission, and especially check the TA. If you are not familiar with them, search the archives for instructions, it has been covered many times. If you buy it, the next thing to get is an owners manual.

656 is an excellent haying tractor. Approx 60hp on the PTO. Will pull most mower/conditioners, small to medium round balers. Basic transmission is 5 speeds forward and 1 reverse. Handle on left side of cowling is for TA (shift on the go if you are not familiar with IH) Gives 2 speeds in each gear for a total of 10 forward and 2 reverse. Check this out thoroughly before you buy. NO shuttle shift so not the best loader tractor but many are used that way. Value depends alot on condition and location. $3000-$5000. Neighbor bought a nice one couple years ago. Paid $8200. HTH

Leonard,

Thanks for the information. What are some areas that I should pay particular attention to on this tractor?

Joe
