I removed the injectors for testing and only the precup on #1 would come out. The other five have the hole in the precup pointing down and not up to match the injector. Is there a way to remove the precups without pulling the head? Also # one did not have the gasket between the precup the nozzel body, but had three gaskets between the nozzel body and the head. Parts book calls for just one. I have new gaskets and dust seals. I thought about using a slide hammer to try and pull the precups out, but, don"t want to break them. Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks, Tom/Iddaho

The cups are put in with the hole pointing down inorder for the fuel to shoot into the dish on the top of the piston . When this happens it cause turbulence in the cyl. which helps in the combustion of the fuel particles .The precups & glow plugs get combustion started ,the finalburn takes place in the cyl . I have seen where the cups were put in upside down & the engine would produce white smoke but wouldn't start, installed right the engine started

Any of the precups I have seen are marked on the outside. They actually say "top". If you clean them up you will see it easily.

We had one very stubborn precup on my 560. Even with the head pulled, repeated applications of heat, prolonged oiling, and heavy hammer blows it stayed in place. Some of the others came right out by hand, but not that one.

It didn't break it with all the abuse. I was replacing the head - finally ordered a new precup.

At least a couple were pointing in the wrong direction.

Tom Been a long time, but if I remember tight the cup should say up on it. Also if I remember right the hole in the head is down it the bottom of the the injestor so the hole in the cup should be down. You can see this if you got them out.

Get a can of Kroil, squirt em every day, after about 3 days get a rubber expanding plug from your auto parts store. As you tighten the plug the cups will turn and pull out. The cups are marked which way they go in.

I managed to get four more out today and have been using Kroil on the last one. I assume the hole in the precup goes up to match the injector. What kind of a mark is on the precup to indicate which way it goes in? I have not wire brushed them yet to look for a mark. The five that were stuck had the hole pointing down, which would be 180 from the injector. What would that do? Thanks again, Tom/Idaho

don't understand 180 out, the nozzle is in the center of the injector body, glow plug is at 12 o'clock. Wire brush the precups they are marked. Be very careful not to distort the sealing surfaces, the new gaskets are steel instead of copper and they don't seal as well as the originals.
