An earlier response I posted jogged my memory. Both my Dad's 1066 and 856 will freewheel with the TA lever back on a downhill grade.

Neither TA has seen that many hours since it was replaced, and both have done it since they were replaced. He complained to the CaseIH dealer that did the job, and their response was, "That's the way they are."
Baloney. The 756's TA works perfectly. Holds in both positions. They didn't do something right, we both know it.

NONE of the hydraulic TAs should freewheel in low range. Started with the 06 series from 706 on up.

FREEWHEELING ON LOW SIDE OF TA. A. SELECTOR SPOOL NOT PROPERLY ADJUSTED. A. ADJUST SELECTOR SPOOL TO SPECIFICATION (YOU MUST OBTAIN 1 1/8" UP TRAVEL FIRST. B. 86 SERIES SELECTOR SPOOL CABLE STRETCHED OR BROKEN. B. REPLACE WITH NEW CABLE AND ADJUST TO CORRECT SPECIFICATION (1 1/8" UP TRAVEL FIRST). C. DUMP VALVE IMPROPERLY ADJUSTED. C. ADJUST DUMP VALVE TO CORRECT SPECIFICATION. D. LOW CLUTCH PRESSURE. D. INCREASE PRESSURE BY REPLACING REGULATOR SPRINGS. E. TRACTOR OVER BALLASTED. (FLUID IN TIRES, TOO MANY WEIGHTS ON TRACTOR. E. REMOVE FLUID AND WEIGHTS FROM TRACTOR (IF TRACTOR STILL FREEWHEELS, CALL AG PARTS FOR SUPER TA REPLACEMENT).

Nat: I owned a 1066 it didn't free wheel. I once tried out a 766 on demo, it didn't free wheel. I've driven another dozen large chassis 06, 56, 66 and 86 series and none of them free wheeled. That is the way the large Chassis IH were built ather 06 Series, none of them were supposed to free wheel. Your CaseIH dealer has done something wrong during rebuild.

I know on the smaller tractors without hydraulic T/A or brakes....the back posistion would not hold going down hills, but hydraulic ones should.

I was not around the 56 or 66 series, but my dad used to have a 1086, and it never freewheeled, that is what I used to slow the tractor down a lot of times instead of using breaks.

I used to own an 856. It DID NOT freewheel with the lever back.
