Merry Christmas!!

Just got a 340 Utility with an IH 200 loader and have some questions.

Where exactly is the serial number located? I have looked all over both sides of the clutch housing and found nothing.

It appears that the original color of this thing was yellow. It has independant (live?) PTO and a 3pt hitch, so is it a utility, industrial or ???

It has 24" wheels with 14" tires and weights. are these original to the industrial model? Should I replace them with 28"? I intend to use this as a manure/dirt/rock mover as well as for pasture mowing.

How does the 3pt work? It will only go fully up or down. Is there a way to switch it over to position control?

Sorry for all of the questions at once. I have been reading here a lot and just haven"t found the answers to these questions.

Thanks!!

It sounds almost like the valve or something inside it is either worn out or plugged up and would have to be taken out to be cleaned.
Or it could be the original Tel-A-Depth control valve may have been replaced with a Hydra-Touch one. Which is identical to ones used for the loader, as it has up, down and neutral, but nowhere in between. Just wondering if you have tried moving to lever down, than back into a midddle sort of neutral place, if so does the hitch still move or not.

Dont know if this will help, but heres a pic of the valves off a 340 standing up on their left end. If you cant see the valves now you can look at them by pulling the flat red plate under the dash off. Does the 3pt valve, which is the first one on the leftlook like the one here, the one with the "S" on it? or does it look like the two remote vavles to right of it? Note the square block on the left is the regulator/safety valve.

It has 2 levers to the right of the dash (that control the loader) and a third lever to the right of the seat (that controls the 3pt). All I get out of it is full up or full down with no in between, just like my Ford 2N which has only draft control.

One other thing is the 340 Industrial came from factory with the 340 badges having a black background instead of red. Their was an industrial 3 pt available on them too.The industrials had a different cast grill on them with a Industrial badge across the top.I suspect yours is a 340U painted yellow.I don`t know what the problem on your hitch would be. It should have tel a depth valve on it that would keep it at whatever height you wanted it.Just to be clear, are you saying it either goes all the way up or all the way down- no in between ?

Use this link to CaseIH parts and you can see parts book.Click on Search for parts right here on bottom right of page and next page comes up ,then type in 340.Then you can see what was all available on the 340`s

Well the 3 pt and PTO were availible on the utility or industrial, and alot of the utilities were painted yellow from the factory or dealership cause it was all about what the customer wanted. Our 340U for has at least 2 different shades of yellow underneath the red paint. To find out which one it is youd have to see the serial number plate, if its still there. It should be on the right side of clutch housing.

As far as the tires, they were one of the optional sizes, I think there were 24, 28, and maybe 1 or 2 other sizes availible.

As far as 3pt which version is it? Is the lever located to the right of the seat, or up to the right of the dash, which is the hydra-touch system.
