Hi and a very Merry Christmas to all ! I was just looking at some of the Farmalls for sale on Ebay . Whew !!! Parts tractors are trying to be sold for $1500 !?! With a reserve price ! What's the reason behind this ? Are scrap prices that high ? Normal working class tractors with shoddy paint and less than average metal going for 2K or more ( just the " buy it now " price that is ) .

There's a tractor ( Farmall M ) for sale on there that's $28,000 . It's a hi-crop , if there is such a thing then I suppose it's very rare - but 28K ? I guess I should get off my arse and sell my broken transmission'ed M with a 9-speed for $2500 because that 9-speed is RARE ( sarcasm intended ) . I guess I live a sheltered life . The price of everything has skyrocketed and I can't keep up with it . Looks like there won't be any more Farmalls on this property if prices keep on the way they are . I know that ebay doesn't mimic auction prices to closely but as more and more people that don't care about the history of the tractors but only the profit potential get into the mix the collectors smile and everybody else loses . It's gonna be a sad time when we can't use a Farmall to work with because it'll be worth more just sitting in the barn staying clean . Take care everybody ! ...Randy

It's nothing as nefarious as all that, for the most part. These people think they've got GOLD, or they are just completely out of touch with reality.

The real scams are the super-nice, super-rare tractors with starting bids of $1, short auction times, and no reserves.

Have you tried to buy a tractor out of a barn, or a field? 90% of the time, the owner wants a mint for a siezed-up rustbucket. Ebay just reflects real life.

...and you know what? More power to 'em. They can ask however much money they want. It's a free country, the American dream. You don't have to buy the tractor. It's not worth getting upset over. If someone is fool enough to pay that much, then good for the seller. They took a gamble and won.

I've bought two tractors off eBay and paid fair prices for them.

ASKING and SELLING are two very different things when it comes to the price of something.

Do an advanced search and check the box marked "completed listings only" and it will show you how many of them never sold... price is in green if it actually sold.

I think I'll try selling some tractor parts on eBay this spring, maybe even a tractor... but who knows.

Like they say, believe only about 1/2 of what you read. Nobody is paying those kind of EBAY pirces. Ebay tractors is for the Scammers these days. Ebay tractor sales are getting to be like the Nigerian emails you used to get. I doubt that 75% of them ever sell. Heck check the YT ads. You can go back to tractors advertised 3 mths ago and they are still available for sale.
Reasonable priced items sell and the others aren't selling.

I pay no attention to ebay for anything. When I want to buy a tractor, I find one at a farm auction. Usually, I get what I want. I have yet to exceed about $1800 for a letter series --I have not bought one since 2005, though. There are many sources for parts other than ebay, also.

Merry Christmas, Randy! Most of those guys are dreamers and it seems to run in spurts. That hi crop has been around for a few weeks now. Asking price is never an indication of value.
