Headlight wiring question

I have rewired most of my Dad's 1943 Farmall H, and have a question about the lights. On the diagram the I got from this site, it shows the wire from post 3 on the 4 position switch going to the lights. What do I do with the other wire from each light? It looks like the second wires (one from each light) were grounded to a screw at the bottom of the switch face plate. Is this correct? The ammeter jumps like crazy to the discharge side. Thanks for the help!

Mark

if it has the original ih lites, they should be teardrop shape. on the back side of the lite there is a machine screw into a small bakelite square. that is where the power goes in to the lite. the chassis of the light handles the ground thru the clamps to the headlamp bar. if there are two wires coming out of the lamp, could be somebody ran ground wires. these can go anywhere on the tractor where there is a good ground. you ammeter should show a discharge when the lights are on.

Thanks for your input! Unfortunately, these lights seem to have just normal sealed beam bulbs. Maybe I should check the ground? I don't think it matters which terminal on the bulb I use for positive or ground. Does it?

no, it does not. DC current is two wires. One to a ground and one to the hot wire. Make sure you have 6 volt lights with 6 volt battery. 12 volt lights on 6 volt system will draw the amps and eventually burn the wires if not fused.
