my 454 grinds when I try to go into high range and if it goes in it kicks out when I engage the clutch. Also if I let the tractor set for more than 2 weeks the clutch will not release apparently stuck to the fly wheel. I solve the problem by using a C clamp to hold the clutch in when the tractor is sitting but that is just a band aid, not a solution. any ideas.

Lotta people block clutches. Specially on N Fords. Consider it normal.

Hi Harold is the grinding into high range from a stop or while moving? There is no synchromesh between lo & high only 1 thru 4. As for jumping out of high range, I would check the adjustment on the range transmission control rod. Re sticking clutch unfortunately that is one of the problems with the new metallic pads on the clutch disk. Any moisture or high humidity and the pads will rust to the pressure plate and flywheel. Same happens on cars & trucks with disk brakes. Give me the old asbestos pads.
