I tried to search for this here but could not find it.

Online parts book shows 11 studs 5 15/16 but retired & 5 studs 6 1/8

How do you know where the longer studs go? And do they all get replaced with the longer ones now?

My 43H that I pulled the engine out looks like some of the head nuts are barely covering the threads on some of the studs, wondering if someone got em mixed up or does it matter?

Is there a diagram showing where the longer ones go anywhere?

Randy

Two long studs go where the throttle pivot bracket is installed on top of the head. The others go where the heavy washers are used. If you inspect the head closely you will find that some of the head stud holes are actually heavy wall tubing pressed into the casting. The washers go over these tubes and extend out far enough the contact the casting so the nut is nut holding just the tube.

Great pic. That would have been helpful on my first H rebuild. The 5th long stud on the H goes right in the center of the head between the no. 2&3 cylinders.

Hi I've got the manual in front of me and it doesn't specify, except the two long ones for the throttle linkage. The only thing I would suggest is that if they are still in, then leave them cos they sometimes break easy, and it can be a long and expensive job to put right. MTF

Two of those longer studs go where the throttle bracket is installed. The other three go somewhere under the valve cover, but I can't think exactly where.
