SMTA is all painted. Now detailing the hydrualic hoses. I have a motor driven set of wire wheels, stiff and soft. Polished up the steel ends to high gloss. Hand sanded the rubber. They look like new Question is how to keep the now bare steel fittings from corroding. Will a clear coat adhere? I can't find any epoxy clear. All I find is acrylic, and uerethanes used over base coats. Like to have something more bulletproof. Plus I would use it on polished non painted bolt heads and nuts.

Not sure if this will help...but the Eastwood Company ( for car restoration) sells items to restore original appearance...

I know there was a kit to simulate cad plating on brake boosters ....

My protective coating knowledge is very stale. I used to be involved with the application of industrial paints that were specified by corrosion engineers.

Epoxies tend to chaulk when exposed to weather. Most epoxy paints are not formulated as top coats. They are heavily mixed with fillers to achieve single coat thickness, or millage; the term used in the trade. Consequently we have high build primers, coal-tar epoxies, zinc-rich sacrificial paints, and so on. The various epoxy resins are notable for their adhesive properties and durability.

I suggest that if you can't find a clear epoxy paint, and still want to use it, get some two component epoxy glue syringes and mix them together with xylol, xylene, MEK, or similar solvent. Use that as paint by dipping or brushing in a warm environment.

I wouldn't go to the trouble. I think you will find a two component polyurethane to work better. This would be something like a clear DuPont Imron. If it is too glossy, add some flattening agent.

I discussed the imron with the paint man at ABS. Problem is i end up with enough material to do 100 tractors. And HIGH cost for a few items. And it doesn't store that well. Maybe we go with a clear fingernail polish? Really not joking here, is there a small package clear tough stuff that would work? Even brush on?
