Hey guys! Wondering what the inside dimensions of an original SH battery box is. I am restoring a SH and need a new battery for it. I do not yet have a new battery box for it but want to be sure that my new battery will fit in it. I always try to get as big of a battery as will fit in the box. Thanks!

P.S. - For anyone who was wondering, I got it to start! The starter was in fact stuck and it had no spark at the points. Whoever switch it to 12-Volt use a 12-Volt coil that required an external regulator and they didn't put one on so it had just burned up the coil. Runs like new now (if I can get it started!)!!! Anyway, thanks again...

Took these off of my 53 SH. 7 1/4 wide, 9 1/8 wide, 8 1/8 tall on side that faces carb, 8 5/8 other 3 sides. I have a 6 volt bat in mine, bomgaars 575 CCA 720 CA

Group 1 is a 6-Volt battery. You need a 12-Volt.

I found that a Group 26 (IIRC) Champion brand battery from K-Mart was the best fit in my Cub's battery box, which would also normally take a Group 1 6-Volt. Not all Group 26 batteries are the same, though (some are much taller), so you might want to take some measurements before you head off to the battery store, and take a tape measure with you.

Matt - I believe a group 1 battery is the largest that will fit stock SH stage 1 (undertank) battery box.

A group 2 battery MIGHT fit - however if memory serves a group 2 is just a fraction of an inch too long...
