Can anybody tell me all the models numbers for midmount and trailer type mowers made by IH? I am wanting to continue cutting my small hayfield but my options for ten acres really boil down to a sickle mower...either semi-mounted, midmount, or trailer type. I use the MTA to mow. For years I have used semi-mounted mowers (JD5)but they are very difficult to move on and off the tractor and tend to evidence any malfunction by blowing the pitman all to heck. Pitmans are no longer easy or cheap to replace around here. I want to put up an ebay search for a different style of mower but need some model numbers. Anyone know these? Just the mid-mount and trailer types. Thanks!

For simplicity of connecting look for a 100 or 1100 trailer mower. You will need at least a single acting valve on your tractor to lift it. A draw pin, hydraulic connectors and a PTO and its ready to cut.

I lay no claim to being a mower expert, but I do have a 115 balanced mower on a Super H I have on the lot. I mowed a few acres with it this summer and was impressed on how much better it worked than my recollection of a JD #5.

a few years back in a farm show magazine, i saw an article about a man who was fed up with pitman issues. he made his sickle mower into a chainsaw type drive. it still used regular sections and was driven by a hydraulic motor/hydraulic pump that could be driven in either direction. it looked like a chainsaw on steroids with the bar parallel to the ground. the inventor claimed it didn't plug as often and cut just as clean. I bet new guards are a must!

another option lies in brand new equipment such as Vermeer's trail behind disc mowers. they do not have a conditioner, and hook up like a haybine. however, the M might be a little light on hp, though the power requirements are lower without a conditioner. disc mowers are virtually unstoppable, they'll even chop off your t posts that are in the way ;)

Oh yeah, I forgot... I do have a 115 as well, but it is missing a couple parts and is in pieces back in the trees. Picked it up cheap enough for some spare parts.

It wouldn't be too difficult to make a frame and drive system if you just had the wobble box and sickle...

What I'd really like to do is get one of the hydraulic drive wobble boxes from one of the newer Rowse double 9' mowers to put on my mid-mount... third party image

Thanks guys for the quick response. Great pictures! Any one of those mowers would seem to be better than what I am using now. I would put up with the wrestling it on and off if I could get rid of the pitman. Seems like that shaft breaks before you get much warning of trouble.
I'll try to come up with a good search model that gives me good hits. Really like that mid mount mower!

I use a mid mount, pitman arm mower on my Super A and have no clue what model it is. It is only 5 foot and I wish it was bigger as I cut quite a bit of hay. At first I was going through pitman arms one after the other but figured out that if you lift the bar too quickly with the touch control. it will bounce up, changing the angle of the outboard knuckle and bang goes the pitman arm. I make mine out of fir 2 x 2 and the one in it now has lasted a couple of years. I would love to have one of the balanced head highway mowers for these tractors if anyone know where one might be available.

Karl, your mower is likely a no 22. Your pitman problems are the type of wood you are using. Those need to be made from white oak. I use pitmans all the time and very seldom ever break a pitman rod. I also use the balanced heads, but have gotten very good service from both.

This pitman-less mower is a 120. It started out as a semi-mount with provisions for a tow behind conditioner. I have turned it into a hedge clipper using a hydraulic drive. It wouldn't take much to mid-mount it to a SMTA. Just another hydraulic cylinder and mounting brackets.

IH pitmanless mowers started with the 100 series:

100 trailer

110 and 115 mid-mount

120 semi-mount

130 3-point

Newer models went to the 1100 series

1100 trailer

1110 and 1115 mid-mount

1120 should be semi-mount (never have seen one)

1300 3-point (might be 1130)

I personally have a 100 trailer mower, 1110 mid-mount, and a 120 semi-mount.

Here's my 42 H with 1110 and 100:

Here's my other 42 H with the 120 semi-mount:

I have a parts catalog at home with all the model numbers, the trailer type had different numbers than what I've listed but I don't remember them off-hand.

If you search on ebay, choose the category "Business and Industrial" to limit your results...

The 100 was available as trailing, fast hitch or 3 point. I have a 100 fast hitch now. Of course it is just like the 1200. The difference between it and 1300 is the frame where the wobble box mounts. 1300 is adjustable at the top link and the others adjust on the frame.

There are to many to list all of them, but here are some.

mounted- no 16 pitman
simi mount- 25V, 27V, 31, 32 pitman
simi mount- 100 series balanced head
trailing- 1100 balanced head. mid mount- 110, 1110 and others balanced head.

Gp to CaseIH.com and search mowers. all the newer balanced head models will come up.
