Started the H up today and it's missing and pulsating when it runs. Sounds like I can hear a faint backfiring out of the air intake. It is pulsating when it runs, running fast and slow, about a second slow and a second fast. Doesn't accelerate very good and still pulsates. The weather recently got colder here and I start it at least once a week. Always been an excellent runner. Also spitting a bit of fuel out of a hole or port in the base of the carb towards the rear of the carb. I am thinking a stuck valve but don't know. Haven't done a compression test or anything else to determine cause. Too nasty outside. Any ideas?

I'd check and see if you might have ice in the carb as someone else eluded to. Sounds to me like the motor is starving for fuel. If you choke the motor just alittle does it straighten out? If it does then it is for sure a fuel issue I'd say. Water tends to collect in these metal tanks even if there wasn't water in there initially. Condensation is what gets em when the weather turns cooler like this. Mix a bottle or two of dry gas in the tank as well as cleaning out the sediment bowl. That should take of it.

Sounds like carb. is icing up .They frost up on the inside and have the same effect as running with the choke on.Seems to happen most when humidity is high and temp is in mid 20's to mid 30's

You might try tightening the carb to intake and also the Intake to Head nuts. They may have shrank enough in the cold to leak air.

kinda sounds like moisture in the distributor cap. pop the cap off and see if its damp in there. you can give a quick spray of wd-40 to the inside of the cap to chase all the water out of it.
