So we all remember the story of the Ant & the Grasshopper? Well, there"s a foot of snow on the ground and the pole barn isn"t even started. Sooooo , I need (and want) to replace the battery on my 560. I"m looking for insight on what"s too many CCA"s and what works best for maintaining it and the engine in the snow outside? Block heaters? Dipstick heaters? I"m hoping someone has some previous experience with this.

Thanks,

Matt

A, Cub, 2N, 4000 in Mich never used any heaters. Lighter oil, maybe. Keep gas full. Clutch released easier spin. Couple seconds crank before starting. OUTSIDE ALWAYS REVERSE IN CASE TIRES ARE FROZEN DOWN. FORWARD YOU WILL FLIP.

Get the biggest CCA. battery that will fit in the battery compartment and install 1500 or 2000 watt engine tank heater if you plan on using tractor in cold weathwe. Also install heat houser as this will keep snow and wind from engine and keep heat in close to engine to make engine heater more efficent and after tractor is running will keep you comfortable. Two hours running engine heater should be enough to get you going. when done working be sure to cover operators deck up to aircleaner with a canvas to keep that area free from snow. Armand

Matt, I highly recommend the big honkin heavy duty batterys that have say 900 to 1100 CCA if shes gotta sit in the cold n you want her to start in the winter. Make sure each n every battery n starter n solenoid n ground conenctions are clean n tight n I like BOTH the felt washers under the battery cable post ends PLUS use some battery terminal spray to avoid corrosion. Use Sta Bil in the gas tank and water remover if needed,,,,, ,,,have real good plug wires n tight fittin boot ends and maybe a lil ignition spray on the distributor cap if needed,,,,, ,, keep the ignition switch and other electrical doo hickeys sprayed with WD 40 to prevent water n freeze ups,,,,, ,,,have the ignition well tuned with good plugs n points n condensor and fresh clean water free gas n you ought be good to go

best wishes

John T

You can't have too many CCA's. It's like having too much memory in your computer.

A tank heater for your coolant is the best. You want the coolant warm and the tractor will think it is a summer day out when you start it.
