Ok, I got the hydraulics working now, it was a stuck valve in the side plate where the filter is and I honed out the bore to make it float freely . I still have no PTO operation but I checked to see if the fluid was being sent to it when the valve was depressed and it is through the small steel line. When the tractor is off the PTO will turn 180 deg. either direction, when running it is locked up solid. Any idea"s? I ordered a service manual to maybe find out the power flow of the hyd. system.

Robert, if you email me at clarabrownlee@rogers.com, I will scan & email you the 3 pages from I&T Service manual for PTO adjustments for 684. Your 674 should be the same.

Hi Robert, is the spool valve on top of the MCV valve and PTO lever adjusted properly. I read that you have hydraulic oil flow in the small line that feeds the PTO clutch. According to I&T Shop Service manual with hydraulic oil at operating temperature and engine running at 2200 RPM the pressure at the outlet of the MCV valve for the PTO line should be at least 220 PSI. There is a procedure to test and adjust the pressure but requires a hydraulic pressure gauge and fittings.
The hydraulic oil is fed by the small steel line to sealing rings on the PTO shaft that feeds the PTO clutch. If tractor has dual speed PTO 540/1000 RPM then sealing rings are on 1000 RPM shaft otherwise they on lower 540 RPM shaft.

Good luck & Seasons Greetings
JimB

Thanks so much, I'll test the pressure in the morn. How do you adjust the PTO pressure? Is there a pressure reg. located nearby, or is it adjusted by the PTO spool position?

Robert, according to I&T Shop Service Manual. 1)Remove pressure line going to PTO clutch at tee and connect pressure gauge.
2)With warm hydraulic oil and PTO engaged, run tractor at 2200 RPM and check for pressure of 220 psi. If pressure is low remove the plug on top of MCV valve to the right of the PTO spool valve and add shims till pressure is minimum 220 psi.
3)Reconnect pressure line and remove cap from tee and connect pressure gauge. Run tractor at 2200 RPM with PTO engaged and if sealing rings and PTO clutch are good, pressure should be 220 to 250 psi.

Since you had one stuck pressure regulator in MCV maybe PTO pressure regulator is stuck as well.

Good luck
JimB
