Temp today is -10 and when I started my C it started right up at first at high idle then quit. The govenor seems to be frozen at high throttle even though I left the throttle control at half way when I shut it off. It would not even kick after, that even though it turns over plenty fast.Gas drips out of the carb. Any suggestions Farmall friends.

Your governor probably has ice in the needle bearings from condensation in the engine. Our A did the same thing. If you put the throttle as low as possible when you shut the engine off, it will be at minimum throttle plate position when started. Before starting, do as suggested by others & move the governor to carb rod back & forth to loosen it up. Just for fun, check the oil bath air cleaner cup for ice.

It may start easier if you had a fuel primer installed similar to the one's used on snowblower engines. The military used these a lot on their gas engine vehicles dating back into the 1950's. They had a primer line that ran to each cylinder off one primer pump. Some of those tank engines were 12 cylinder. None of them had a choke. Hal

If fuel is dripping out of the carb, it is flooded. At -10F it will have to be a little flooded to get enough gas to evaporate and make the motor run.

With my H, three cranks with the choke closed (and the clutch pedal held down), open the choke, 7 clicks on the throttle, ignition on, and crank it again. When it fires, it needs about half an inch of choke to keep it running.

When that doesn't work, I have a magnetic heater that I stick on the manifold above the carb for a couple hours and then try again. As a last resort I jump the starter with a 12V booster pack.

It is looking like this could be a cold winter, so if you need this tractor to run, you will have to figure out the starting drill and stick to it. Sorry.

Greg

I normally do not run my tractors much when it is cold, my body likes the cold even less than the tractor. Anyway my B always starts without a choke in the summer, I started him the other night at 20 degrees. It like yours turned over a little, fired, did not think it was going to start, had to choke it quite a bit more than I thought I should, but it finally started, still had to run at 3/4 choke for about 45 seconds to a minute and I never have to normally do that, then he ran like the little trooper he always is,as was stated, you might need to choke more. good luck.

When it is that cold, I always grab the throttle rod and move it back & forth to free it up before starting . I don't know why but they seem to freeze up and stick. To start when cold, I leave the switch off and close the choke tight. then turn it over two compressions, maybe three if real cold(below-20). Then open the choke about 1/4 to 1/3 , put the shitch on and hit the starter. It should fire right up and stay running. Then slowly adjust the choke to smooth it out.

My H is a hard starter in the cold. Like your tractor it would start up immediately run like atop for 10 seconds or so and then die. If you tried a re-start, like yours, she started dripped gas. For some time I thought that it was flooding out, so I wasn"t chocking it. Turns out that I needed to give it full ckoke to start and then feather it back. Starts and runs almost every time now. Although I didn"t like doing it, if I really needed the tractor and it was flooded, a shot of starter fluid down the air cleaner would get her running.

Got her going Boys! snow storm here last night so I needed to plow snow, realized for some reason there was no spark.Took distributor apart, checked points, rotor button, could find nothing wrong, put her back together and guess what? loads of spark so I knew she would start, and she did. I don't know what I did? Percy
