my dad is rebuilding a farmall cub and when the tractor sets for a week or so the oil pump comes unprimed he has replaced the pump so do you have any sugestioons on what to try

Another solution would be to put a check valve in the pickup tube. Fabrication would be easy, and/or a modest device could be purchased to be spliced into the pickup tube. A steel marble sized ball check would do it. If the pump gears are worn, they need to be replaced. The housing is the block, and that is a difficult repair. JimN

Try straight 30 weight oil. I've had the same problem with some of the 10-30 oils.
