I spent many hours on an H when I was a kid. 10 hour days, usually 7a-6P, hour for lunch. Fill morning and noon -- occasionally forget to fill at noon, would die at 3-4 pm, 7-8 hrs. 17.5 gal/8 hrs = about 2.2 gal/hr at full load. 17.5/7 = 2.5 gph. Ballpark of other responses in this thread.

Nebraska test 328 gasoline Farmall M shows 2.8 to 3.0 GPH at full load and 2.0 GPH at about half load.
Nebraska test 328 gasoline Farmall H shows 2.1 to 2.3 GPH at full load and 1.5 GPH at about haif load.

With my H sledding logs I would burn 10 gallons of gas an 8 hour day. There was some heavy pulling uphills and also some idling time while logs were cut, and half throttle empty runs from the log loading area back to the area the logs were cut. My F-12 would only use 6 gallons in 2 days doing the same thing. It saw more idle time though as it could be a contankerouse thing to start if the tank was more than half full. (bad needle valve in carb) As the logs got bigger I thought it better to use the H as I was overworking the F-12.

With my H I use about a half gallon/hour mowing. It's about half what I use to burn in the same time with an 8n ford

My M running a 28000 watt generator will use about 1.8 gal per hour.It runs about 3/4 open to maintain 120 volts so it really isn't a fair test. All I know dumping 5 gallon cans of gas in it while standing on ice is no fun. I have tried a SH on it but it isn't horse enough. I once put a G deere on it and you could see it fire in the incadesant bulbs,Dad always said 2cyl tractors would tear up the chain in an elevator.

That's funny about the G.
Last time I did a check of my '50 M it was burning close to 5 gallons an hour. This was pulling 3-12" bottoms in heavy clay type soil. Also it's probably due for an overhaul; plenty of blowby. At times it was really lugging.
What kind of generator did you get that's that big?

5 Gals per hour Plowing? ANother reason against this archaic practice! How about less than 2 gals per hour 966, 28 foot disc prepping for planting?

2 gallons per hour is much better, However, as little as I do plow, with a 1000 dollar tractor and a 75 dollar plow, would probably take a long time to make up the difference for me to buy a 966 and a 28 foot disk!

Well, some ground needs to be plowed sometimes. And disked and harrowed and springtoothed and stuff. Gives you some seat time.
