I am just asking a question. What would happen if instead of using a C/O you just mounted a 30AMp toggle switch on the steering post and wired it correctly. When you started the tractor you closed the sw. and opend it when you shut the tractor off.
Thank you.

Another problem with the manual toggle switch: When the tractor is at idle it'll DRAIN 10 - 15 amps thru the generator unless you open the switch.

If it were mine I'd dump the C/O and install a voltage regulator since a regulator does a much better job of keeping the battery charged. (Use a regulator for a Super H, Super M, etc).

Or use the diode trick mentioned below...

Sure it will work and I'd turn it off before I shut the tractor down. Im not sure of the price of a diode like Bob mentioned instead, but they dont cost very much and then no worry about any switch to fool with.

It would work PERFECTLY, until the first time you forget to shut the switch off when shutting the engine down, or it stalled, OR some "blem" came by and played with the switch.

Under ANY of those scenarios, all the smoke will be let out of the generator, and the battery will be drained.

If the old mechanical cutouts are giving you "fits", here's an idea... some of the old Ford hot-rod "flattie" guys gut out their cutouts, and install an alternator diode or two in place of the coil and contacts, then put the cover back on to keep the "Correct Police" happy. END of cutout problems.

Such solid-state cutouts are available commercially from hot-rod outfits.
