the Dim position isn't really necessary other than originality. (maybe legality on the road) stock lighting is pretty dim, even on 12v machines of the 70s when on bright/full power with clean connections. the dim and bright difference should have been adding bulbs in my opinion. not to mention relays... ;)

JohnT that answer covers everything and lt's the most sensible answer that could possibly be given especially the bit about explosive gases, lots of people don't understand that particular danger. MTF

Thanks, I understand it having seen a battery explodeeeee e and as you well know right after or during charging is the most hazardous time as the hydrogen gas is rising at the top ESPECIALLY if a high current quick charge OUCHHHHH

Nope, using a 6 volt charger just get the polarity correct, + to + and - to - from charger to battery. I dont like to use the high rapid charge settings unless necessary i.e a good long slowwwww wwww low amp rate charge versus high amps for a short time

Have the vent caps removed and good ventilation, make sure electrolyte is at least above the plates, dont let her overcharge n boil over, make the last connection somewhere OTHER THEN the top of battery where the explosive gas may be present i.e. if the battery is grounded to the tractor frame (well DUH unless you removed the ground cable) make the battery charger connection somewhere away from the battery top ESPECIALLY when removing it cuz thats when the gasses are gonna be hanging around the most.
