Here is what I remember reading. Never had a 400/450 apart to that extent, but this gentleman's website gives you an idea of what you're getting into and he actually gives some tips on here. Just to to the Farmall 400 tab on the left and work your way through the website. Link

I have the elimination t/a available and no you will not need to use the t/a clutch or flywheel. Some people reccomend you don"t eliminate it because of a few bucks because it hurts the value of the tractor though. Email me if you are interested in more info on the elimination t/a or t/a parts.

There was an eliminator kit on eBay. It may still be active. If not, goto "completed items" and you will see the all the parts.

In some cases, you can eliminate the TA function without major disassembly. Remove cover and weld the planet gears to the carrier frame. I don't recommend this type of destruction but it is your property. I purchased a 660 with a welded TA and the tractor operates well.

Is there dowels somewhere on the midcase for reassembly or how do you re-line it up true?

I use 2 5/8 bolts with the heads cut off and 2 flats ground on the end to help remove if needed for help with alingment of center section to rear. The transmission input shaft and its housing bolts to center housing with or without T/A and the outside of that housing fits in the big hole in transmission to take care of final alingment. The transmission main shaft front roller bearing slides inside transmission input shaft, on reassembly some recommend putting a rubber band around rollers to hold them closer. I usualy remove belt pulley gear box or cover and reach roller bearing and lift front of main shaft to line up because transmission main shaft drops a little without input installed. Most 450 have just the splined coupler for the pto shaft,if so the splines need lined up also when installing center to rear. If it has the seasonal disconnect just set in disconnect position when installing housing. Before removing center housing from transmission take out 9- 5/8 diameter bolts( not head size), one is inside the T shaped cover plate on bottom of center housing. If you don't know how parts are removed from center housing you should get a manual or someones web site that shows how.

First I would ask you to rethink the TA elimination, it is down, the hard part is done, and they are Very nice. Most Eliminator kits have all the components and use some original parts. They come with directions. The mid case is removed with bolts from the inside of the case, and is often quite stuck at the seam. Look in the parts diagram to be sure all bolts are out befor being "firm" with it. It is Heavy, so a well placed and ballanced hoist is needed. JimN
