I would like to find a nice Cub for the Grandkids but I'm concerned about the pedistal seat from a safety standpoint. I believe they changed to a custion seat with backrest at some point. Can anyone tell me what year the change took place? Also would low profile Cubs also have the new seat the same year as the standard Cub?
Thanks

The deluxe seat was optional. You could get either the sprung pedestal seat or the hard-mounted deluxe seat.

I'd look for a Cub with the deluxe seat already on it. The frames and mounting brackets are not cheap.

I guess if you could lock out third gear it would be somewhat safer. But the whole concept of kids and vehicles does not correlate well with concerns for safety. Your grandkids maybe exceptional in that they might not test the limitations of a Cub or their ability to handle one. When they are out of sight, I wouldn't bet on it. I grew up with a Cub and count myself lucky not to have been injured.

As for the seat, I have the seat w/arm rests and back minus the cushions. The cushions are available on eBay on a continuous basis. Email me.

the change was in 54 or 55 with the introduction of the hundered series, there called a deluxe seat. the the arm rest and back rest, A low boy would also have this seat too. But you could retro fit a older cub wiht this seat, or add a back to the pan seat
