third party image I listed my hood from my H on Ebay. It's in great shape, ready for a show tractor. The first time I listed it, a hood that was only primered went for $330! So I set my reserve for $150. I got $51 in bids, so it didn't sell. So I put it up again. Second time no reserve, $75 to start. NO BIDS!!! Meanwhile, along with mine, there is a hood that's all rusted, it's got $102 so far!! What the hell??
What am I doing wrong? What is wrong with my hood??

My hood:

You also need to consider the "shill factor" on eBay. Many items are run up by the seller under a different name or by friends of the seller...

Well, I took advice and listed the primered hood I have on YT. We'll see what happens.

Here it is.

The economy is going to pot right now, gas is high, and it's Christmas time. People just don't have as much money to spend.

Yea I've gotten into that situation a couple of times on ebay. Last week I sold a toy crane for $91, and the exact same model was sold by another person 3 weeks ago for $168. No difference, same condition. same box, same model, different seller, and he got an extra $80 for nothing. Sometimes its frustrating. On the other hand, From time to time I have gotten more for selling the same things others do. I guess it evens out.

The one that sold for $330 was an all-fuel.

Mike,

Almost everything on eBay is going cheap. There was a post last night showing a Farmall MV that is on eBay, only at $2,850.01 and OEM (ID: oemtp) has a lot of parts ending tonight, most of them are very very cheap.

I agree with John M. When I buy parts, tractors or whatever, I do not want them primed or painted. I just have to remove the stuff and start over, because I have no idea what type of paint it is or what's under it. Paint hides a multitude of defects -- but the defects are still there.

H hoods are so plentyful, and since yours in painted noone really knows how much Bondo is in it, if any, and shipping will be high say, to the east coast, and well, in all honesty, I wouldnt want a hood already painted. Wheres the fun it that? BTW, why are you selling it again? I forgot.

Dear mike,
The others are correct in one way. The rusty units are ready to start the process of restoration.
yours appears done, but will be sure to standout like the mismatched clothing choices my wife points out that I try to wear.
To fix it--- Place the hood on a couple of 2X4s on a grass background. John Deere contrast. Do not say that it is ready for installation, use the following text (if it is true, if not modify it)

This is my extra H hood that I was intending to use when I began restoring my tractor. The hood is not a reproduction. It is unrusted and has no dents or repairs of any kind. The clips and springs are original and not worn or bent. It is a distillate (dual fuel) hood that is why it has the right side hole. It has tight paint on it that can be easily painted over with light surface prep for adhesion.

The original hood was found, and part of the ownership component, friendship I have with the original owner is to keep it as original as I can. The original will take more to prep for me, but it came on the tractor and feels correct.

That is what I would list! Good luck, it is definitely a bizarre place to try to predict outcomes. JimN

I think they think that there is a strong chance the paint won't match because so many different shades of red out there. They would reather paint their own.

They both will have to be sand blasted for painting and yours has the extra hole price filling in that hole and soon your talking money.

Did you list it with several pictures and a good description?

I have yet to sell on eBay but from what I've seen in all my buying, items without a reserve or starting at a low price (like a dollar) sell better. I think if someone puts a reserve on an item they don't really want to sell it. That always ticks me off when I go to consignment auctions and everything has a reserve or its junk and gets few bids. Its to the point now where I don't go to consignment auctions for that reason. A note in the ad would save people alot of time & money.
