I have a cracked head on my H and I need to replace it. I have a good rebuilt head off a Super H. Will these heads interchange? And which head gasket should I use?

No problem going with a SH head on tractor. The last casting number head IH sold as replacements for gasoline H through 350 was the same head. As the other poster said putting a H head on a newer model can run into interferance problems. Only other problem is putting a regular production 300 or 350 head on a older model. They don't have the ventalation breather hole in rear of head, they used a opening from valve cover. As someone posted use the H head gasket for 3-3/8 or 3-7/16 bore.

The heads should interchange. Some time back there was discussion about putting a head from a 300 on an H to raise the compression. You can probaby tell just be comparing your two heads. Use your old head gasket to look for differences.

If you have high compression pistons, you will want see that the pistons do not touch the valves. If you check it without the head gasket and they clear, you should be good.

Any H head gasket will work.

I tried it the other way, H head on the 300 block.

Head fit fine.... till I tried rolling the engine over to set the valves and it would lock up 90 degrees either direction.

Them Firecraters wouldn't clear the combustion chambers of the H head. I had to do a clearance cut on the edge of the combustion chamber to make it work out.

I wouldn't think there would be clearance problems with the valves as deep as the combustion chamber is, but I learned the hard way that I should have done a mock up before final assembly. It cost me a head gasket set and a few extra hours to disassemble and reassemble the top end for not checking.
