I have what is think is a farmer made PTO extension. However the bar and bracket bolted to the bottom of the axle is non-farmer made. Anyone know what it's for? This is attached to an F-20.

To catch the pto shaft if it were to come off and not dig into the ground, which could result in the tractor flipping backwards?

You're looking at it backwards John, the tractor will flip over forwards! I think it is a mount for a picker or combine etc? There is not much, if any, IHC left on that pto set-up. And the real ones are not actually an "extension", so to speak, as the tractor worked fine as long as you used IHC equipment. They are actually a retro-fit designed to "standardize" the location of the pto, so that one manufacturer's equipment will work with another manufacturer's tractor. I just sold an IHC dealer's binder that had all of the service bulletins covering the changeover.

Would it not be like pulling a stump. The shaft would get pulled into the ground so far at which point it wouldnt go any deeper, thus making it like trying to pull a stump. Regardless of what "Mythbusters" says, I have seen a driveshaft come loose at the front of a car and flip the car. It wasnt front to back, but it did flip it.

Since I'm clueless, how would that part be used for a picker? I'm trying to visualize a picker and how it would hook up. This would be a picker mounted on the tractor and not a pull behind picker correct?

Yeah, that is what I am guessing, a mounted implement as they often required removing the drawbar. A lot of the implements had a mount that bolted on to the tractor and then the tool was fixed to the mount, so the tool could be removed without a lot of wrench work. Then the tractor with the mounting hardware and the implement were eventually seperated, rendering the mounting pieces and the implement useless. Kind of like the Fs you often see with the square cultivator bracket on the front and the mounting brackets bolted to the back of the rear end housing. Once again, just guessing here!

Can't really tell, but it might be part of the IH PTO extension. IH made a PTO extension, it was a option and they are very rare.
