I GOT AN ENGINE GASKET SET FROM RICE EQUIPMENT I WAS WONDERING IF I SHOULD PUT ANYTHING ON THE PAPER GASKETS OR LEAVE THEM DRY I REALLY DON'T WANT ANY LEAKS ON MY F-20 WHEN IT IS FINISHED THANKS FOR THE HELP STEWART

It can be a real bugger to try and keep these things from leaking..I've tryed just about every why I have heard. Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don't. I don't like the seals they give you for the old tractors anymore. They are too cheap and never really look like the original one you are replacing..

I clean and smooth the metal surfaces as much a possible. Then I coat both sides of the gaskets with clean grease. This makes them more flexible; avoids wrinkles by allowing them to slide as you tighten the metal; and avoids any damage if you have to take them off again for some reason such as to install a part.
