which is the better and most trouble free tractor--the 1066d or the 1086d?

Just like any tractor they normally run good and they can break just as good too!! There both good.

They are basically the same tractor except for the cabs and the shift linkage.

So if your asking cause you are wondering which to buy? Go for the one that has had the best care to this point in its life. The cab is much quieter on the 1086.

I have both and there are good points and bad to both.
