Fellows does it really work to lower 1 of the front tires pressure 10 to 15 lbs to stop wobble at hwy speeds. I have checked wheel bearings, front bearing in the steering box on top, play in the down shaft for steering. There is very little free play in the steering top gears only about 2.5 to 3"

Which part of the wedge did you put forward? The thick edge or the thin edge?

I put one on my H with the thick edge forward and still have a terrible wobble - but I know the whole bolster is slopped out and have the rebuild kit ready to go... Just wondering.

like georgeky said check the front rims, be sure they are centered. run one of the front tires up on a couple 2x6's so the other is off the ground, spin the wheel and look for out of round, it may just need to be centered better. while its up there check to see if the rim has any side to side wobble, could be the rim is bent. check the mounting holes in the hub to see if they are wallered out to. if so you may need to either put bushings in the holes, or redrill for the next larger bolt. (ace hardware usually has a good selection of various bushings) true value too. check both front wheels.

Glenn, 90% of the time that is the problem, but folks seem to want to throw money at the front ends. Then they have a new front end that still wobbles.

I am gonna make a comment that is sure to bring fire down on my head, looking like I'm only trying to strike up controversy, but forever people have laughed at/criticized etc. Case's "chicken roost" steering design of the '30s-40s+, but we've owned such Case tractors/been around them for over 60 years, and I've yet to see one wobble down the road.

That will help with the wobble, but creates other problems. The tires will wear different and handling in general in the field will suffer. The wobble could be worn bushings. bearings, or wheels not mounted to hubs on center. Lots of times this can be cured by just centering the rims on the center hubs. Running one tire at one pressure and the other at another pressure is not a good fix.

What exactly do you mean by 2.5 to 3" of free play? Don't know about the lower tire pressure but I was driving someone elses Super A today and it was all over the place unless I kept my foot on one brake pedal and steered into it. I doubt the brakes would like it for any length of time though. tractorsam

Steering wheel will move that far before tires move.

That's sort of what I thought you meant in which case I would have said that was about normal. Can't really help you beyond that as I've not had too much experience on that aspect of the H's. tractorsam
