It looks like this repair might be a little more involved than I had hoped. The differential bearing went bad and chewed up the differential case.

Time for a new differential ? Or since shaft is spined, the inner bearing race does not move in relation to the differential case, and is it fine to reuse as is ? If the differential is bad, should I reuse the old ring gear on the new case ?

Thanks

Greg

Greg, Looks like you need a different differential. When you replace it you need to redo the gear mesh and backlash adjustments. This can take some time to do, but if you don't do it and the gears aren't correctly meshing it will damage them and make a lot of noise. I replaced the gear case on my Cub and it took a lot of trial and error to get the correct adjustment. Any shop manual for the H will give the procedure. Roger

You need to find yourself a good used case. Put your old ring gear on the new case as it is wear mated to your pininon gear.

Looks like the part that the differential bearing goes on is broke off or worn off. You need another one.

Yes, it looks to me like that 'bearing' is more of a 'shim' than anything else. Certainly no rotation going on there.
