Hi guys-just bought a 1939 Farmall A.Engine oil has anti-freeze in it.Pulled pan off and see anti-freeze leaking around o-rings.Pulled head off and pistons out.Put water back in block and see water leaking around o-rings.Took sleeves out and see red sealant around o-rings.What is that?Ordered new o-rings.What is the best way to put them back in?What I have read -put new o-rings in dry and put liquid soak on sleeves and slide in.The old o-rings did look good and found no cracks any where. Thanks guys.Mike

Had a leaky "O" ring on a F-20. Sealed it by blocking block drain; pouring 2 cans of stop leak into the block; and letting it set for a few weeks.

Like Hal said, clean the o-ring grooves. Make sure they're as clean as you can get them. If your sleeves don't have any pitting in the area that the o-rings seal against, you can reuse them, if in doubt don't take a chance on them, pistons and sleeves are cheap. I've always lubed the o-rings with soap, installed, and then installed sleeve dry, but I see no reason why your way wouln't work. Also make sure the counterbore in the top of the block that the flange of the sleeve seats in is perfectly clean.

You need to clean that block area where the old seals were installed to remove any dirt or rust.
The dish detergent will work fine when installing the sleeves. Hal
