Hey guys, maybe someone can help with a few questions. I am looking at a IH 484. Looks a little beat up but I am looking for a diesel chore tractor. The issues are; (1) the brakes do not work, and (2) it idles fine but will not rev up to full throttle, but acts like the governor is trying to catch up with the throttle setting. Are these problems major or minor. I was thinking bleeding the brakes and changing the fuel filters??? Thanks for any input.

Bleeding the brakes is a temporary fix at best. Brakes are the weakest point on the 84 series tractors. They work really well until they start leaking off. It needs some new o rings in the system. The axles have to be removed to get to them. If they don't leak to much bleeding will make them work perfect for a while, but you will be bleeding them from time to time. The engine speed is llikely dirt in the tank and or fuel lines. They tend to stop up at the fittings on bottom side of tank. Those and the cross over line likely need to be cleaned and new fuel filters.
