SH Gas Tank Mystery

I am restoring a Stage II distillate SH, I have the original fuel tank from it along with a Stage I gas tank that I would prefer to use since it is in much better shape. My parts book only lists one P/N for the fuel tank, 49639DDX, yet the two are definitely not identical. The difference is in the location of the fuel strainer inlet hole. It is 2 3/4" farther to the back on the tank from the distillate Stage II. I don't know if it is located differently because it is distillate or because it is Stage II. I have rev. 2 of the TC-49 parts book dated 11 of '59. Any one have a book that can shed some light on this?

Yes the stage 2 gas tanks did have the hole back more than others for more fuel strainer clearance from hydraulic unit.

Thanks. Guess I'll use the original tank.

Forgot to say that the part # you posted is probably for the last replacement tanks IH sold for H and SH, and thats the reason the same # is shown. Its because they had both openings in the bottom, the one not used was pluged.
