450 gas think float is sticking?

I parked my 450 gas back in September and it was running great. I wanted to crank it today and noticed after I turned the gas on, it was dripping out of the part of the carb where the air comes in. Did the float stick on me while it has been sitting? Any other ideas?

Thanks guys, I had the fuel shut off but when I turned it back on and the float stuck it let a lot back up in thru the air intake pipe. I drained all of that and drained the carb. I tapped on the carb with a screwdriver handle while barely turning the gas back on and cranking the tractor fired right up. I had to tap it a few times more but it straightened out so I ran it for awhile. Parked it turned the fuel off while runnning and let it burn down to going dead, pulled the plug out of the bottom of the carb and let it drain. Maybe I can hold my breath and not have any more trouble.

Good tactic. Sometimes it is just a little bit of fuzz that hold s the needle off the seat. Shutting the fuel off each time you leave the tractor for even a few minutes is good policy, and SOP. JimN

This worked for me on my 450. I took the carb drain plug off. Then took the gas line off and sprayed a lot of carb cleaner in thru the gas line hole. Then put the plug in and sprayed more in. Let it sit for an hour or two. Took the drain plug out and sprayed air from the air compresser in the gas line hole. Put it back together and it worked. I guess I was lucky. I now close the gas line and run it till it stops like my Dad always told me to do.

It is very possible that the float has become stuck due to the fuel deteriorating in the carb. Most likely the needle has become stuck in the seat also. Probably no need to replace either one, just take it apart and clean it all up. You might want to clean the gunk out of the bottom of the carb bowl also. After fighting the same problem on my M, I now completely drain the gas tank and the carb if it is going to just sit for more than 2 or 3 months.
