I have learned more from the archives than I have from my manual.
When should the "break over center" occur? As I pull back on the lever the "break over, snap over" occurs about 2-3" after I start to pull back on the lever. Should it happen half way, center, or closer to the full pull back of the lever?
I put the tractor on my dyno and found that I could get only 30 hp before the PTO would slip. I removed the PTO unit and found a snap ring missing, the front seal not holding as there was not any oil in the PTO and a long way out of adjustment. I am trying to adjust it now after I replace both seals. Thanks for any help. Tom/Idaho

Tom, I had a similar problem with my 560. I was roudbaling and when the bale got about full the pto would slip. If your clutch"s are in good shape put the unit in the vise per the service manual( I have one if you need a copy of those pages). and tighten the main nut. You should have to put a piece of pipe on the arm to make it break over center. The newer pto units you could adjust on the tractor if that"s what you have.

Tom: As time goes on, you will find that PTO is the weak link on a 560. IH just didn't get IPTO right until the 06 tractors. The various units worked decent on 300, 400, 350, 450 and 460, however the 560 just cranked to much hp for the PTO unit. I bought a 560D new and replaced the clutch pack in that PTO every 2-3 years. I grant you I was doing a lot of heavy PTO work. The adjustment on that clutch pack leaves much to be desired, as well.
